From Script to Screen: Storytelling and Commission Project Ideas

For the project brief, I must create a story and all pre-production based around these three words I pulled out of a different bag at random.

Santa's little helper is my character, though I'm not limited in creating just one character for the story, but this is the one I have to base the plot of the story on. Because of it's many connotations, Santa's little helper could be of any design, though the most prevalent creature connected to the term is the Christmas Elf, which helps make Santa toys for Christmas. There could be many helpers of any description helping Santa, but what shapes a character is their environment.

A Space Station is my environment, which opens up new possibilities for characters and design. Perhaps the station is in command of Santa, to monitor Earth and it's population and to ship out presents more efficiently. It could be that Santa needs to deliver presents to the Space Station. Would the stationed be Christmas themed. Or are elves actually aliens?

And finally the prop, being a key. Because now I have my two other crucial parts to the story, a theme presents itself to me. A key can be anything that unlocks something, and what's more, it could be sci-fi/ Christmas themed.

Now I have my three elements, and I've got loads of possibilities and ideas to start planning plot elements on. My first step should be to come up with a list of everything that comes to me in terms of what the character, environment and prop could be like and how they relate to become story ideas.

  1. I could have never thought of elves being aliens, but that's a nice idea. Maybe Santa lost key and that elf was trying to bring him that key or something like that? Of maybe elf was abducted by aliens! :D there are big possibilities for you to create a story and I already like some of them. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks, good idea :) I have a few ideas around Santa visited the Space station and getting stuck and the elf needing a key yo open the door. These ideas have merit too, I love the idea of an elf being abducted by aliens, that's really funny!

  2. Perhaps the space station is Santa's base of operation for delivering presents but not just to earth but other planets like Mars. It would be pretty hilarious to have Santa's helpers try to deliver presents to different planets with unfamiliar territories and maybe the occupants of these planets aren't the friendly type and feel like they are being infiltrated by Santa and his helpers?. There could be an epic showdown between Santas helpers and some Alien species and maybe the key is for Santa's sleigh but its like a customised/steampunk type sleigh that runs on fuel like this -http://alexboca.deviantart.com/art/Bad-ass-santa-II-176806128
and it gets lost during the battle with the Alien's and they have to figure a way back to the space station? the ticking clock could be that they need to get back to give presents to the occupants of other planets :)

    1. That's a great idea, I never even thought of! I thought the space station could be an outpost so while Santa's on delivery and loses a present or forgets a country or needs repairs done to his futuristic sleigh, there are several remote outposts for him to have a pit stop. I like the idea of some epic battle, maybe the key to the sleigh gets stolen or gets lost while escaping some very Un-Christmassy aliens?
